Once
upon a time, there was a tribe living on an ocean island. It had
not occurred to any of them to leave their fertile island until one day
an islander became curious and started exploring the surrounding waters.
She built a raft, which gave her more courage than the log that she had
used before, and she dared to sail further away from the island. However,
she still stayed on the coastal waters. Then
she got an idea to ask her friends to help her to build a bigger raft.
Together they could now sail much further away than before. As they were
not familiar with the surrounding waters, the raft was soon stranded on
a sandbank. Fortunately, their resourcefulness rescued them. On
their return, they told about their experiences to the other islanders.
Gradually also other islanders became interested. They built bigger and
bigger rafts and soon boats, too. They also learned to put seamarks,
which helped them to stay on course. |
